Welcome

Neurosonology Benelux 2025 - Anatomy meeting physiology

Dear colleague,

Since its introduction in the ’40-ies of the last century, ultrasound has earned its place as  an important method to study the function of the human body in both health and disease. Over time, ultrasound has evolved significantly, starting  with Doppler but later with Duplex, constantly  improving spatial and temporal resolution. Initially bulky Doppler systems resembling refrigerators have become more compact with, as most recent achievement, a handheld probe incorporating all electronic circuitry to be plugged into a laptop and generate an immediate inside view of our body. Its flexibility and bedside availability has led to the emergence of point of care ultrasound (or POCUS) as a valuable addition in emergency medicine.

Neurosonology focuses on sonography of the brain, cerebral circulation, peripheral nerves and muscles. It is unique because it studies in one modality both the anatomical and physiological aspects of neuropathology.

Amid the evolving field of stroke medicine and neurocritical care, neurosonology is progressively taking on a central role in understanding the complexities of cerebrovascular disease and offering real-time insights that directly influence patient outcomes. With ongoing technological advancements and expanding clinical applications, neuromuscular sonography is a hot topic!

With the support of the Dutch Society for Clinical Neurophysiology, we are proud to have found so many excellent speakers to present you the latest developments in the field of neurosonology! We have a mix of state-of-the-art lectures and practical workshops.

We are looking forward to meet you in the cordial atmosphere of the beautiful city of Maastricht!
